White to Play and Win
Thanks -- I've actually been a little surprised at the attention folks give to some of the variations after it's obvious that the puzzle doesn't work. It shows that there's interest in analysing the other lines and really doing a deep dive on the position in spite of the fact that it's no longer really a puzzle (never was I guess). I appreciate the insight that comes out of this because it helps me to better understand what goes into the analysis of some of these positions.
I've also made an effort to go back and fix the last couple of puzzles I've created and to post the resolutions (although sometimes in the wrong thread...). It's good for me from a learning perspective and I like to think of it as atonement for the flawed first cuts.
OK . I'll give one from a real game to keep the ball rolling.
Keres to play and win (all but one variation end in mate, the other wins a piece). This will test your powers of analysis. Any smarty pants want to put 'easy' or 'got it in 30s' at the end of this, I'll know you are lying!!
Gosh I was obviously sleeping before going to bed! I wrote it late at night - after midnight - just before going to sleep. So there is no mate in two. Well great that you are awake.
The first puzzle is flawed. There is a link to a corrected version, "vulgar" though it may be in the thread above.
The second one was not intended to be posted to this thread, but was rather a correction to this flawed puzzle: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/more-puzzles/easy-one2
I hope you find it somewhat less offensive. I have seen many puzzles that do not conform to your convention on this site. I think perhaps more accurate would be to say that the first move should not be glaringly obvious. A great puzzle would be one that illustrates one or more a discrete tactical lessons (today's puzzle of the day for example).
Please keep in mind that I've put these together as much for me to learn as for the chess.com community to consume. If you dislike them, then watch for my handle on the topic and skip them.
Cheers.
