I learned chess as a small child with my dad, who played USCF tournaments in the early-mid 70s as a "Fischer Boom" player. I played a lot with him and my brothers, but I never really studied the game in a meaningful way. I fell off of regular play in high school as I pursued my career interests (theatre and music), and I currently teach theatre at a local high school. One of my tougher students asked me to play chess with him during a light day, and it rekindled the spark of joy I had in the game as a kid. I found out the online chess scene has made learning the game easier than ever, and I'm enjoying starting an actual chess journey. I've started playing OTB with three local chess clubs, and I'm having a great time learning and matching wits in-person and online.
