What Are Chess Rankings?

The chess ranking system is designed to make it easy for people to compare the performance of several players. The system is based on each player's Elo rating. It is also dependent on the type of time control being measured, so a player is often ranked differently in blitz and bullet, for example.

After each rated chess game, the players' Elo is updated. Their scores are then compared to the other players in a database, and their rankings are adjusted accordingly.

In Chess.com, each time you play a rated match, all of this is done instantly and automatically, so you do not have to wait to know how well you are doing!

World Chess Rankings

FIDE maintains an official world ranking for chess players based on their ratings, which, in turn, is affected by the results of their official games.

How To Check Your Ranking On Chess.com

Checking your ranking on Chess.com is very straightforward. If you move your cursor on top of "Home" menu and then select "Stats," you are redirected to your personal statistics page. On your Stats page, you can find your ranking for every time control. 
If you want to see more detailed information about your ranking, you can click on either the "Friends" or the "Global" link and be redirected to each specific leaderboard.
