Westlands Chess Club

We are one of Kenya's newest and most progressive chess clubs based in the Westlands neighbourhood of Nairobi city. Since August 2011, WeCC (pronounced 'waeck') has been meeting every week for some chess play between social, recreational and competitive players of all ages and skill levels. Club Rules & Regulations Westlands Chess Club meets every Saturday afternoon at Coffee World (Slush), Corner Plaza, Parklands Road, Westlands, from 2 to 6 pm. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via email; our Facebook page and our Twitter page. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in chess. Persons below the age of 18 can become junior members of the club provided at least one parent/guardian is a senior member and agrees to take full responsibility for his/her ward. All categories of members will be entitled to: - Use club premises, equipment and library facilities. - Receive regular bulletins and announcements on club activities and events via email, Facebook and Twitter. - A copy of the club’s rules & regulations and the club constitution. Full (Annual) members will be entitled to: - A membership ID card. - One branded t-shirt, chess journal and print newsletter subscription each. - One vote per person during elections to appoint office bearers provided he/she is over 18 years of age at the time of voting. Intra club tournaments will be held regularly and all members informed via email and social media. You are encouraged to participate in them frequently to ascertain your strength and to measure progress against your own chess goals. When a member first participates in a club tournament, he/she will be assigned a rating of 1300. Members will be able to view updated ratings for Blitz, Rapid and Classical tournaments on the WeCC website within 1 week of the respective type of tournament having concluded. Books, magazines, DVDs and other material that are part of the WeCC library may not be borrowed or taken out of the club premises by members. Gambling is strictly prohibited at WeCC club meets.
