Tobey Maguire To Star As Bobby Fischer

37-year old American actor Tobey Maguire, best known for his role as the super-hero Spiderman in three Hollywood blockbusters, is set to play the controversial former world chess champion Bobby Fischer in a new movie.

The film, "Pawn Sacrifice", will be directed by Ed Zwick (Legends of the Fall, The Last Samurai).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will focus on Fischer in the 1960s, leading up to the famous world championship match in Reykjavik against Boris Spassky in 1972.

The project has been in the works for more then 2 years already (previous report here), and it should still be at least 2013/14 before its release.
