Sigeman & Co. 2013 Chess Tournament

The Limhamn Chess Club is proud to invite the players, the chess audience, the media and the sponsors to the 21st annual Sigeman Chess Tournament. The tournament will take place at the classical Hipp Theater in central Malmo, for the sixteenth time. Just like last year, eight players play seven rounds, and as usual, the field is very interesting.
The field includes three former winners of the Sigeman Chess Tournament, former world championship challenger Nigel Short from England, the winner from 1995, Ivan Sokolov from Holland, and the shared winner from 2011, Hans Tikkanen from Sweden. Add to that no. 2 on the Dutch rating list, Loek van Wely, and Hungary's youngest grandmaster ever, Richard Rapport. The home team also comprises Swedish GMs Nils Grandelius, Emanuel Berg and Jonny Hector.

Short will have to be the favorite, based on his past career (he is the only one who has played a world championship match and has belonged to the world's best players for 25 years), but also based on a number of recent good results. The other three foreign guests are the main challengers, but Nils Grandelius has had some good results recently and Hans Tikkanen shared first place in his first start in the Sigeman Chess Tournament, so there is some hope for a home team victory as well.

As all players are known for their fighting skills, we would like to congratulate all chess fans on the opportunity to once again see world-class chess live.
