IBM Swaps Chess For Jeopardy
In 1997 IBM's custom built chess supercomputer Deep Blue beat the reigning world chess champion, Garry Kasparov in a 6-game match and IBM's share price rocketed.
Now in 2009, IBM has announced plans to unleash it's latest experiment in artificial intelligence on one of the most famous TV game shows - Jeopardy.
The computer is called Watson, and it will try to win against human opponents in a test of lateral thinking and trivia knowledge.
