Champions Chess Tour Finals To Happen In Oslo, Norway, With Live Audience
The fourth and last online event of the Champions Chess Tour is underway, and soon, the full field of eight players will be all set for the finals. While we don't yet know who'll join GMs Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, we do know where they're going: The CCT Finals will take place at the Screen Studios in Oslo, Norway, from December 17 to 21.
This year, for the first time ever, fans will have the chance to see the players up close as they battle for the title—all while enjoying a series of chess activities and immersing themselves in the CCT atmosphere. More information about tickets coming soon, so stay tuned!
The prestigious CCT Finals will bring together some of the strongest players in the world and feature an impressive $500,000 prize fund. The eight finalists will have to prove themselves over three stages of play to claim the title and take home the $200,000 first-place prize.
The CCT Finals is the grand culmination of an entire year of top-level chess competition. So far, three players have guaranteed their spots by winning the first three online events of the tour. Carlsen struck first, winning the Chessable Masters, followed by Firouzja and Vachier-Lagrave, who won the Chess.com Classic and CrunchLabs Masters, respectively.
The remaining five spots will go to the winner of the last online event, the Julius Baer Generation Cup, which is ongoing and concludes October 1, and the top players from the CCT Leaderboard.
One player in particular has dominated the tour since its inception. World number one Magnus Carlsen has won every edition of the Champions Chess Tour since it began in 2020. Now, the Norwegian will have the advantage of playing on his home turf while fighting for his fifth consecutive title. Can anyone stop him?
