The book tells the story of how chess impacted Western culture and how computers and the internet affected the game. Divided into three parts, Doggers analyses chess as part of our culture, talks about how computers changed the game, and outlines the path of online chess from its humble beginnings to the massive movement it is today.

"I’m delighted to finally see the book being released, the result of a wonderful project which started in December 2022 for me,” said Doggers. “I have written this book for both chess fans who want to learn more about the cultural and technological history of the game, but also very much for non-chess playing readers who want to understand the magic that has surrounded this game for 1,500 years and the reasons behind the new peak in popularity in the digital era.”

"I do think that chess is a very special game, different from any other game, with a certain intrinsic magic (...) I hope to have put forward what it is that makes chess so special."
