10 TH ASEAN + AGE-GROUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Host Vietnam sweep all the 38 gold medals in the team events and 42 gold medals in the individual events to emerged over-all champion in the 10th Asean Age-Group Chess Championship held June 6-15,2009 at the Thua Thien- Hue,Vietnam.The 25-man Philippine team finished 2nd over-all with 4 golds,the fewest in their 10 years of participation.The Philippine team composed of the top 2 finishers in the 2009 National Age-Group held in Aklan,a province in the Visayan island known for its Ati-atihan festival and the worlds famous Boracay beach won 3 golds in the rapid events and one in the standard event courtesy of Cherry Ann Mejia in the Girls-14 years and under. Malaysia finished 3 rd over-all with 3 gold medals, two won by Nur Najiha Hisham in the standard and rapid individual events for the Girls-10-years old and under.
