I was born Daniel Greysolon Du Lhut in 1639 in Saint Germain Laval, near Lyon, France. I am the first European known to have visited the area where the city of Duluth, Minnesota is now located and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. My name is sometimes anglicized as "DuLuth" and is the namesake of Duluth, Minnesota.
