Never really paid much attention to chess, until a long bus ride on a school trip. Played a few games with the kid next to me until I decided it would be more interesting to play a game where we explained to the other person exactly what we were planning and then we would discuss the best response and if there were better moves etc. After that I just couldn't get enough of it. Can't remember why I stopped playing but it chess left my mind for a few years and am only now getting back into it.
