Once I was at an otb tournament & I was very close to winning 340$. Round one was easy but round two I was unlucky & got paired against someone rated 2500 online, 1800 otb. I lost round two but in round three I was paired against someone rated 1150 online, I was very confident because I was 1650 at the time & I was in a winning endgame. Almost every continuation was winning but I chose one of the worst options which would’ve still been a draw & he offered a draw but I declined & lost the game. I went on the win the rest of the games, in he last game I played an endgame where I forced him to sacrifice the bishop to go into a two rook & knight vs a queen endgame, I was winning & I knew I was. I managed to convert & mated him with a rook & my king, when I checked the results I was devastated to find that I could have won, I scored 5/7 & third place scored 5/7 but their avg elo per opponent was higher. Second place was 5.5/7 & first was 6.5/7 meaning if I had won that game where I had 5 pawns vs 4 which was completely winning according to the engine I would have won a tournament for the first time in my life.
