I was a member of what was then called the Waterlooville Library Junior Chess Club, in Hampshire, from the age of 8 to 16, and remained there as a mentor and then as a club official until, at the age of 21, a new job took me out of the area. 14 years later, after a long break from chess, and now with children of my own who started showing an interest in chess themselves, I was inspired to start Northampton Junior Chess Club, modelled closely on my old club, back in September 2010. As of October 2014, we have 33 active members, and are a well established club, with members attending various local tournaments. I don't play much myself, preferring to be an organiser rather than a player, as a shortage of free time (I work full time, home-educate five children, and run the chess club!) means I can't put in the study and practice required to improve my own game to a level I would be happy with. I am rather partial to the odd game of Exchange Chess, however!
