Tournament rules and tie breaks

Hi,

I've entered one of those tournaments, and saw tie - breaks how does that work?  I tried to find out, searching the forums, and saw a post saying opening books were OK  - I didn't think they would be allowed.  So are they?  Are computers allowed to analyse if the other player is not there?  It seems a bit unfair - can anyone clarify?

Before I signup for a tournament, I'd like to read over the rules for the tournaments.  Are the rules posted on chess.com and I just haven't found them?

You are not allowed to use computer chess programs to analyse your game and help you pick a move.  Opening books are allowed.  See here for the rules.

Help with tournaments is here.

Basically, the tie-break score is not a simple number...  it's based on who you defeated and when.  If you're interested in calculating it, the details are on the wiki page:

Hi, you can read about chess.com tie-break here, but basically is calculated this way:

A player's tiebreak score is calculated by adding the sum of the player's points they have defeated to half the sum of the player's points they have drawn against.
