time per move

I think tournament games should be set at 1 move per day.  These things drag on way too long.  I am in a game with attaxk, and he's making one move every third day. The guy has like 50 games going at once.  I really feel tourny games should be a smoother experience.  For me, I hold tourny games above others, making those moves as soon as required.  Not to mention, that by waiting so long between moves, I can't maintain that 'dynamic feel' of a game, since whenever I finally get a chance to move, the position doesn't seem like the continuation of a game I have carefully nurtured, but rather some random puzzle of the day' where I am trying to find the 'right' move.  Thoughts?

Here's a thought.  Only play in tournaments with 1 day per move time controls.  People have different needs and preferences.  Fortunately, chess.com realizes that and has made different controls available for us to use.  You're a premium member, so if you can't find one... start one.

I'm completely agree with  LlordLlama.. I suggested few days ago to apply some changes to make the games go faster as, i.e. to limit the time a player can watch the board when is his/her turn or to limit the use of the board analysis. But, unfortunately.. my suggestions had no support Yell. I think that 1 move per day in tournaments is fine, but in addition it's necessary to find any kind of rule to "maintain the dynamic feel of a game"....

In the future I will only join 1 move per day tournys.  I just didn't expect some people to drag out their turn as long as possible.

Will you look at this idiot!  Look at him, just creepin' along! Holy S##t!! Look at that maniac go!

Why, I tell ya, folks, it's a wonder we ever get anywhere at all these days, what with all the idiots and maniacs out there. Because no one ever drives at my speed."

You mean, he's playing according to the time controls you agreed to? Terrible! If you do not have the patience for a 1 move / 3 day tournament, you should join 1 move / 1 day tournaments. chess.com offers both types, to satisfy players who want fast games and players who want slow games. Personally, I do not like to play correspondence chess every day, so slower time controls are a better fit for me, so I can play only when I feel like it.

By drag out, you mean for them take take the time allotted to them to make a move. How inconsiderate of them.

As crazy as it seems, not everyone can always make 1 move per day.  Patience is a virtue.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone!  And props to HONDOHAM for quoting George Carlin!  That guy is a genius.

To Checkers4me:  My problem isn't that some of his moves are taking the full 3 days...my problem is that all the moves are taking the full three days.  Maybe I was just mislead by him, because when our game started, the first 5 or 6 moves were bammed out in like an hour, and then after that, it was 3 days per move.  Perhaps my first impression is the cause of my being impatient.

Either way, I'm just venting.  I'm sure in the end he'll whip me, if his record speaks accurately.

The type of move speed control that LlordLlama is perhaps seeking is an average rate. Alongside the move every 3 days, it would speed tournaments up if there were also a minimum of say 6 moves within a 6 day period. The logistics seem tricky though.

Yes, I imagine this would be a bit difficult to program.

The last time this was discussed, it was pointed out that the Player Move Speed (advanced) option on Tournament creation already provides this functionality. It has 3 selective settings:
Above Average (<12Hrs)    Fast(<6 Hrs)   Very Fast(<3Hrs).
I haven't noticed many tournaments using it, perhaps because it would be even harder to fill the places.

Come to think of it, where would you look for this setting on a tournament you wished to join - or is it hidden?
