Hello Everyone,

I am going to run a handful of tournaments to explore the versatile English Opening and some of its many variations and transpositions. These tournaments favour the experienced player but I think they are good learning tournaments for everyone else.

The first tournament will be  Exploring the English Opening: Kings English Variation, Kramnik Shirov Counter. There are winning lines and ideas to be pursued by white and black. For both subtle moves can yield big results in this variation but you need to assert your position too. The meek will not win this game.

Come and enjoy an exploration of an English Opening.

Cheers,

Arnie

this should link you to the tournament.

also for those people who are interested in learning more about the game where the Shirov counter was displayed, i think this article from the NY Times is a good starting point.

The timeout ratio at 5% is probably a little prohibitive too.

the tourney is about half full now and one thing in tournaments that i enjoy playing in, is one where the timeouts are a very low percentage ofthe games. i think there is a good body of chess.com players that feel the same way. I will raise it as a test for this tournament though so that aabbccdd and others that are borderline can join. if the tourney runs with most games played out, then i will stand corrected. look forward to seeing you there. cheers.
