Either you very carefully skipped over the posts that tell what the function is, or you have quite a severe reading disability.
Eliminate the Abort option
Cystem Phailure, we were asked to state whether we agreed or disagreed with the abort button. I have stated my opinion. What is the problem?
The problem is that you had the opportunity to have an informed opinion but apparently chose not to.
Now you have a second problem: your keyboard is stuck on "bold".
I just had to visit this magical bizarro-world, where those in favor of aborting are actually pro-choice.
I would,if I may, point out to both Cystem Phalure and The Grobe that using the abort button is not a question of starting a game with the colour I want, I merely wish to play alternatively white/black/white/black etc. (in finitum). I would point out that in tournaments they use that system and I have yet to read of any players complaining about it. Therefore, Cystem Failure, does it not suggest 'people like them' do not appear to have an enormous problem with the situation?
That sounds exactly like a question of starting a game with the colour you want and it's abuse of the abort function, plain and simple.
FYI, the game matching algorithm will ensure you end up with a rougly equal balance of white and blank games. It won't always alternate, but it will always balance.

You have to remember that chess.com isn't one big tournament. In tournaments the pairings are structured, in a closed draw, here pairing are pretty random.
It can't always work that way here. Say your opponent wants the same thing as you, and you both had the same colour in your previous game, one of you will have to give in, or the game won't happen
So for every single game, there is only one color that you will play with for that game. In other words, it's exactly a matter of you aborting if you don't get the color you want.
EDIT: Whoops, sorry Grobe, I see you've already made this same point.
I think the following would address the majority of comments posted here:
1 - only allow abort option to first move of white and black
2 - only allow each user to abort one game a month
1 allows to save someone from accidently creating/accepting a game they didn't mean to have. 2 prevents any kind of abuse, such as color selection. If someone needs more than an abort a month, I think that user needs to change something to the way they play/start a game.
The filters currently in place allow to address the other issues discussed in this thread (such as specifying the ranking of your opponent if you don't want to play against a certain level, or specifying the number of moves a day if you don't like slow players).
The abort button is essential for players like me who wish to play alternately black then white then black then white etc. That is how I wish to play the game and have been unfairly criticised on this site for doing so. Why should I and many others be penalised if we were at any time in the future unable to play in this way?

Wrong. All criticism of your wish to play this way has been perfectly fair and appropriate.
I disagree Cystem Phailure, so would the two participants in a tournament if you were to say to them:-
"Right gentlemen (or ladies), it's heads or tails who plays black or white before EACH game. If one of you gets to play white more often than black then it's too bad!"
That, my friend, is why I'm all for a bit of fairness. It's the principle of the thing, a bit like having a Constitution...?

It has already been pointed out to you that "seek" games on chess.com don't have the slightest thing to do with a tournament format.
What an incredibly stupid comment!
There's really little difference whether you want to play white all the time, or simply alternate between the colours, (as opposed to letting the law of averages, and seek-matching functionality balance your games for you, which it will), aborting a game because you don't like the colour you've been assigned is a clear abuse of the abort option.
Look at post 12. White deserves to lose rating points. White is lost. It is a common trap; I have lost count of the amount of times I've beaten my brother like that. There are many similar opening traps, and RESIGNATION MEANS LOSS. There needs to be a change in the abortion system here.
Heck yeah! But which change are we talking about here?
I agree 100% with JazzTChess. The abort button should be disabled. It just gives players who don't want to play unless they are white an oppurtunity to do this. It serves no function!
