Eliminate the Abort option

Especially in bold.

TheExperiencedFool

Keep the button or don't but it is not accptable to penalize for "abort button abuse".

TheGrobe

Sure it is.  What's not acceptable is to abuse the abort button.

What about if you abort more than twice in a day, you lose and your opponent gains 1 or 2 rating points....

I dont know if this suggestion is already suggested because I wouldn't want to read through all 11 pages of this thread but....how about when you abort and game, you must explain why you did so? Like after you abort the game, a window will come and and you must type your reason in. Then, the chess.com staff wll go through the reasons given.

@202- In those cases no, but if you accidentally click on a match yes. My point is that you are throwing the baby out with the bath water on this one.

I think the abort option is useful for when my opponent does not play the first move in 10 seconds, I don't want to wait any more.

azziralc

Yah, but you can won if the game is abandoned.

I abort when me opponent spends about ALL his time thinkin'

Abort option was just used on me for the first time. One move before check mate! The bad really out weighs the good on this one.

There must be something wrong with your profile at the moment.  It doesn't show that you've ever played a live game.

You can't abort that late in the game. Your opponent resigned rather than playing out mate which is fine.

my question  is . the system is so fast  on blitz chess cant it know there was "abort " situation between 2 players  and prevent itself (for say 1min) from finding the same opp... again and again .

i am in computers  and electronic engeneer and have some knowledge .

just remember the aborting player  and  "jump" over the player in search mode.

On the one hand it sounds reasonable.  On the other hand it sound like a bit of computer work that would spread the pain of being aborted amoung more players...  Better to just do the work to either eliminate the abort option or count it the same as a resignation.

I would go along with this if always got the game you clicked on. But when you try to click on a 5 minute time limit and instead get a game with a 2 hour time limit, you need the abort button.

Why would you start a game if you know you're going to be interrupted and have to quit?  Or do pizzas just randomly show up at your house unexpectedly?
