How would arrows and highlighting squares work on a touchscreen phone? I can see how highlights would work, maybe double clicking a square, but how would arrows?
will the app ever match the site?

#2 that’s a good point, Maine double click and swipe? I don’t really care about that as much, mainly variants.

Live 960 is supported on the apps. Most other variants wouldn't work very well with limited screen sizes. The variants server code is a completely different codebase and development team; it's highly unlikely that feature will be added to the apps in addition to screen size issues.
I haven't heard of richer formatting options for forums posts is likely, but if it's on the roadmap at all, it's probably extremely low priority.
