You can delete them from your friend list if you want to. To the right of their name/avatar there is a option button to remove them

I now have two and the first one is not gone. I got a play request and i accepted it, now he has me as his friend. Tried to delete him but he is still in my friends list. WTF is happening here?

Sometimes when one of your friends changes their username, you might not know who they are anymore. But if you keep trying to remove the friend, they should eventually go away. It just takes a while for your friend list to update sometimes.
