Chess.com Application Would be Perfect Addition to Steam

Chess.com would be a perfect addition to Steam. Its computer application would allow the capabilities of Chess.com and what it can have to be limitless. Because Steam doesn't allow advertisements, it would have to only be available through paid methods for Chess.com to profit off it.

It would reasonable to have a pay-to-use Steam application that costs like $19-$40 dollars. And it would have constant updates for a couple of years, probably somewhere between 3-5 years, until the next Chess.com Steam application release where then customers would then have to purchase the next version of the Chess.com application to use it. Monthly subscribers should probably get to use the application for free, while their subscription is active.

Better graphics, better layout, better menus, the ideas are limitless!

Honestly, can we have a response from the developers of Chess.com about this?

It's not up to the developers at Chess.com.

Why don't you just let the guys at Steam know of your idea?  If they can come up with an offer of a couple hundred million, it seems likely that Chess.com would listen.

It's not an offer that Steam does. Chess.com applies to post a game on Steam. More information about it here: https://partner.steamgames.com/steamdirect

And if it gets accepted, Steam gets a portion of the profit.

Here's a basic summary of the profit Steam takes:

It takes 30% only from the first $10 million in sales. For all sales between $10 million and $50 million, the split goes to 25%. For every sale after the initial $50 million, Steam takes just a 20% cut.

I'm not sure if that's still how Steam takes the %cut off profits. But you get the idea.

Basically, any game developer can post any game on Steam as long as the Steam employees deem the game acceptable. It's up to Chess.com to figure out how much money they can earn through their Steam application. If Chess.com goes with it, I can also see a profitable time where they raise the price of their Chess.com application to AAA game price, $60, update the application until the next release every couple of years, and remove the subscription fee Chess.com has. It would be more profitable because there will get sales for a pay-to-use method to get access to all of Chess.com's features.

Plus, have we forgotten about other Chess sites? They're not doing anything special but sites like Lichess seem to be taking a lot of Chess.com's players, and chess24 is rising. So they can do something revolutionary to get ahead of the competition by making the experience of playing Chess on the computer comparable to 2021 video games.

Of course, with all this, there will probably still need to make playing Chess on Chess.com free. Because most of their players play for free.

I agree. It would be great on Steam.
