I thought it would be interesting (and fun) to put some of our kids' tournament games into this thread.  As for my daughter's games, I'll tell the grade and USCF ratings coming in, but I won't be using any names.  Please post any game you find interesting, regardless of whether your kid is rated or what their rating may be.

In the game that follows my daughter was black:

Wow!  Serious sacrifice of material with a good win.

My daughter (playing with the White pieces in this game) has never opened with d4 in a tournament game prior to this one.  Her opponent (who she's played a number of times) is such a slash and burn type player that she wanted to slow him down a bit and take him out of his game.  Just before the game she told me that she had a plan, which, at the time, I wasn't too thrilled about... Undecided and so was born the following d4 opening:

This win ensured 1st place in the rated K-3 section with four wins!  :)

Wow she's pretty good for her grade! And so young! She's gonna be great some day (that is if she keeps playing$

Playing Black, here is her one loss in Saturday's tournament.  We're going to be working on Rook Pawn end games, along with a couple of other mistakes.  She learns more from one loss than 10 wins.  The kid she lost to is really good.  He took 1st last month and got 2nd place this month with 3 1/2 points:

Her opponent's rating is still provisional, but he's played really well in his rated tournament games thus far.

did she forfeit on the last game?

That's where she stopped writing her moves down (AKA 'keeping score').  She had five minutes left with a G\30 sudden death time control.  Whenever she has 5 minutes left on her clock she stops recording the moves to save time.  Pretty common.  She did not forfeit or resign.  At that level, resignations are very rare...

Though not a factor in the above game, the lack of a time delay has been a factor in some of her games.  I am not at all a fan of sudden death time controls.  I think it should be a choice: SD or 5 second delay.  Many tournaments do give such a choice, but not the one she usually attends.  If given a choice, for G/30, most experienced players would choose a delay; while weaker / younger players, who play faster anyway, are likely to choose SD.
