Golf is more important...a lot of business relationships and opportunities are made on a golf course.
Chess mostly does not reap practical benefits outside of chess, aside from perhaps abstract thinking and planning ahead. I am very much dubious about claims that assert that success in chess is tantamount to heightened competence in fields like physics and economics and what not. Chess and mathematics have a link to some extent, but the act of playing the game alone is likely not an alternative to learning mathematics, the purest of all sciences. Mathematics, after all, is a very proof rich subject, and chess does not go into the same deal of depth. Forcing children to study chess may be unengaging for some as well, and it would go against all pre perceptions of the brain psychology. For a developing brain, it is not good to compel them to play chess, because they do not appreciate doing things differently and dwelling on these things for extended periods of time.
No! Chess shouldn't be the most important subject in school as there are more important subjects such as maths, Science and English which can get us better jobs. Whereas, chess as a career? Being a chess player would be the only job you'll get. If you study Maths, science and English, there will be a variety of jobs.
