Low ELO

This is my High School chess club's first year and we recently decided to join the USCF and play at the State Scholastic Championships.  However, we were completely crushed(our best player got 2.5 of 5 points) and many of our members are now depressed with their absurdly low scores ranging from 100 to 468.  Does anyone know how I can cheer my team up and help us improve for our next tournament?  And what's the cheapest way to get officially rated games and experience?  Please help us out.

Encourage them to play on Chess.com! It won't help their official rating, but since the method used to calculate ratings here is a modification of ELO, it'll give them a better picture of where they really stand in terms of overall development. There's no absolute correlation between online ratings and USCF ratings, of course, but it's better than having those low numbers hanging around your neck like an albatross.

As to official play: all sanctioned tournaments are listed on the uscf site, so keep a look out for what's close to your area.
