Looking for a book

Sort:

Hi,

Actually I am working on Murray Chandler book "chess puzzle for kid" A very good book where the tactical motif are classified by theme (sacrifice on g6, e6, etc...)

Guys do you know others books where the tactical theme is classified by square or piece line up. Thxs

You may want to consider, "1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners" by Franco Masetti and Roberto Messa.

I don't know if it is exactly what you are looking for; however, if you go onto Amazon.com and search for the book, you can use the "Look Inside the Book" feature and see how the chapters are organized. This should give you a better idea if it's a book for you. Good luck.

I've actually been waiting for you to mention where you stood. Since you play online, I'll assume that you'll take to solving puzzles using the same 2D graphical interface. With that, I recommend the following:

1. Chess King

Subscribe on their site for FULL access to their content or pay for the tactics courses you choose. Use the site or their app for iOS or Android. As far as I know, they have the largest number of puzzles in "find the winning move" format. Their content was converted strictly from materials by Soviet/Russian GMs and trainers who made the Soviet School of Chess legendary before the age of strong chess engines! Check out their recommended materials based on your rating here:

http://blog.chessking.com/guide/peshka/

The chess puzzle materials from Convekta/ChessOk do not have explanations - just continuations to show the winning line. Maxim Blokh's CT-Art has puzzle that make you solve the winning move for White and Black.

2. Chessable

Pay for the tactics courses that suite your current strength which I estimate is the "green" category for their rating scale. Their format is also suitable for the "find the winning move" formula; however, their content is converted from recent chess book publications. Find a list of their tactics courses here:

https://www.chessable.com/chess-tactics/?page=2

You can find what they've converted from published works by New in Chess, Russel Ent, Everyman Chess, Thinkers Press and Quality Chess from the list. They have a separate category for openings, endgames and strategy for their other courses. The best part is that the text of the original author/s is preserved for your learning and/or enjoyment.

3. Forward Chess

The most favored interactive chess book app at the moment. Most of the chess publishers allow you to buy from their store except for Gambit and Batsford books. There are more Everyman Chess books available through their own app.

You should know that the app does NOT have the "find the best move" feature since its strength is in following well-annotated games in my opinion. It does have a "quiz mode" that hides the "best move" to give you the chance to think of the answer.

4. Chess Studio

Interactive chess book app for books by Gambit Publications only. Their books are exclusive through Chess Studio. The app does NOT have the "find the best move" feature and there is no "quiz" mode.

5. Chess Viewer

Another interactive chess book app for more books by Everyman Chess publications. Some of their titles are exclusive to their own app. The app does NOT have the "find the best move" feature and there is no "quiz" mode. The tests behave like flash cards where you scroll to the next screen to view the answer.

Whichever tactics or puzzle book you pick, it will only serve to improve your tactics skills.

compare to chess.com lichess  rating is actually  inflated by 200 points cause its starting up rating is higher by 200 points compare to chess.com.

GrandmasterForester

Polar composed a book that has some 5,000 chess puzzles. They are organized into mates in 1's, 2's ,and 3's and it also includes a few analyzed games and other lessons. It was useful book for checkmating patterns

Chill-Bhronai

I used to go mad for instructional books and was getting bombarded with tonnes of (to me) useless information. So much so that they were taking away from my enjoyment of the game. They were taking the fun out of the game for me. So, I chucked out the whole-bloody-lot-of-them into the bin. So with no distracting and oft times contradictory information bombarding me, I am starting to re-enjoy the game. My realisation being that Chess is only a game and not the be-all-and-end-all. The only caveat I would suggest to you all is to have no books at all, except the books about the history of the game. I would read one of them quicker than I would a very dry instructional manual.
