Kids would sac a Queen for a pawn, just so they could munch on the chocolate. Doesn't make sense to me.

May be you forgot you childhood :-)
Kids always want to win, especially if winner gets all residue pieces after checkmate. For them to checkmate the opponent is not so exciting, but catch more pieces and eat them is real fun.
