Crystal Lake Middle Wins County Championship... Undefeated

Crytal Lake Middle School today won their second straight county Chess Championship by going undefeated by winning each of the four big monthly tournaments (Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan). I am so proud of them! No team in the middle school division has ever gone undefeated since 1988 when Polk Scholastic Chess began. This is no small feat as each tournament in this division consists of over 23 middle schools (many Academy Schools) and more than 150 registered players.

Sometimes I wish there are a big scholastic program near me -- I would love to try coaching kids in chess at some point in my life.

For those of you who don't know, CLMS has somewhere around a 78% poverty rate.

I blame Mr. Morgan for his great teaching! We also tore St. Pete up as well in our competition!

I myself got a measly 2 wins out of 5, but that is dwarfed only by our awesome man, Mr. Kelby, who won 5 wins out of 5! Those were some biiig trophies.

 Um... Jr., you actually finished 9th out of the top 16. You were seeded 16 and finished with a 2-2 record. Very proud of you and you should be proud of yourself.
