Playing around with a couple of puzzle ideas -- please let me know what you think.

why not bring the knight up first? check forces the queen in, pawn promotes to knight. Am I missing something?
TheGrobe
Ahh, I see just now that I've made an error -- there is a quicker win as the first two moves are unnecessary.
TheGrobe
I just noticed this myself, you obviously beat me too it.  Let me see if I can resolve it.

OK, can't quite make this one work like I'd wanted it to.  I have to say that I'm gaining a new appreciation for puzzle-craft.

There is nothing wrong with your moves. You just revealed the art of chess like many composers. The king is boxed in and pawn is about to queen. Good Thinking!

You found the correct promotion (under promotion).

Ok.. an elaborated battle camp...

I've posted a fixed version of this puzzle here:

Why can't you simply capture e6 with the rook and mate?
TheGrobe
See above -- this puzzle is flawed, I've linked to a version with the same theme which I do not believe to be.

The king would take your lone pawn

Much easier is

1. Kd8+!! Qxd8   and again Knight!

2. cxd8# ..

no need to sacrify the queen..

THE QUEEN SACKS AND THE BISHOP SACK ARE UNNECESARY, BUT THE COMPOSER ONLY WANT TO SHOW THE BEAUTY OF THE PUZZLE. LOOK AT THE KING HIS GOT LOCKED UP WITH HIS OWN ARMY AND BEING MATED WITH A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR.

It is a nice checkmate but could've done in quicker
TheGrobe
Yes, I've linked to a fixed version above.

My mistake -- I didn't link to a fixed version (I got my threads mixed up)

I believe that this fixes the problems with the original puzzle:

BlueKnightShade

The second puzzle is a mate in two:

1. Bxc6 then black make any move.

2. Nxa6#

Loomis
BKS, what if black played 1. ... bxc5.

Please remember that properly composed problems have neither a check nor a capture as the first move. Problems not conforming to this convention are considered vulgar (this does not apply to "real" positions). If you didn't already know this, then I guess your task as budding composer just got much harder.
