This looks familiar. I think it was featured as a "puzzle of the day" here at one point.
Really? Well, I just recently joined, so I wouldn't know. This is a study I found by the Austrian composer Alois Wotawa. Also, I just realized something. One move is unnecessary, because the queen controls the a7-a8 rank, so really it could be mate in 4. The queen sacrifice was more spectacular, though.
