Sorry I was trying to teach beginners not to automatically take a piece and to look around and see your options.

I think it's a good position for players still learning to spot basic mates.
Unbeliever> Smothered mate
I see the relationship, but to qualify as a smothered mate, checkmate would have to be delivered by a knight. :)

Not every checkmate administered by a knight is smothered mate. A smothered mate only occurs when all the King's possible flight squares are occupied by friendly pieces. Because the definition is as such, a knight is the only piece that can perform a smothered mate.
Tricky 2 is just a normal mate. Tricky is close, but the King has the flight square g7. Since the bishop covers this, and not a friendly piece, it is not a smothered mate.
