"Run 4... Run 4..."ย
Since... @ The core of it's core
Chess is a game of war
as c6 to f7 is a kind of 4 (6+7=13 & 1+3=4)ย
Now you have 11 moves to mate and the possible trail of c6 to f7 is 2 moves long so how come that this is almost 4? meh
Because 11+2 is also 13 & looks almost like a figure four happy

Mate in 11... looks almost 4ย
Inspired by Forrest Gump who at 11 had a mind of 4 well almost... wink
He met Nixon and 4D yet not Al Gore in 94?! meh
& Oh... surprise 9+4 is also 13 & 1+3 & that is also almost 4 grinย

I like how the Black Rook is pinned at the end and the mate is delivered on a rank/file that the pinned Rook is on.

Great sense of detection and eye for detail, coming from someone having refined taste for the aesthetics of the game. happy

Yes indeed, 2 rooks so close to each other yet so far. One has absolute power over a sovereign and the other must look with dismay and a sense of total resigning at the events taking place so close in it's vicinity. An amputated soul, well... kind of like lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump movie. sad

Now that we speak about ending move of the puzzle another ending scenario could be like the one below if black plays e5 instead of c4, needless to say that it is less attractive as you eloquently described the desirable features of the main puzzle.

Btw, this thread also contains the figure 4 element:

The funny part is: The rhyme on Gump and "camel's hump" well, this puzzle actually have a slight resemblance to a camel at move 1. At first it is limping camel until Rc1 is played and it finds balance.
