PUZZLE in HISTORY: Swift Attack?! "Nice to be BACK"
Maybe this game was to hard, the first move was 1. Nxg5 - at this point the black is force to eat the knight because of the threat in double check and queen capture. (Sacrificing the knight)
1. Nxg5 hxg5
i doubt im right
1.Nxg5 hxg5 2.Ng8+ Rxg8 3.Rxf7+ Ke8 4.Qh5 Qe7 5.Rxe7+ Kd8 6.Qe8#
or 4...Rg6 5.Qxg6 Qe7 6.Rxf8+ Kxf8 7.Qg8#
I found forced mate in 6. The main line shows what black can do to make the game last as long as possible. All the variations show other moves black can make. Let me know if a variation was played during the game or if I made a mistake here:
Yeah, Now I know I miss something... hehe, Sorry about that I'm fresh from vacation when I did this. Mate in 6 is the nearest forced mate thanks TraglorfBob for the sequence.
Mate in 5
1. Nxg5 hxg5 2. Nd5+ Ke8 3. Nxc7+ Nxc7 (or Qxc7 doesn't matter at this point) 4. Bxf7+ Ke7 5. Bg6#
Mate in 4 if
1.Nxg5 hxg5 2. Nd5+ Ke6 3. Nxc7++ Ke7 4. Rxf7#
A game played by Pillsbury, and composed as a puzzle.
