Misleading Skewer

Here is a position I was actually in yesterday, thanks to tactics trainer this has to be the best mate I have ever personally done. Every variant after the misleading capture leads to a mate. Now when I first seen it I was only going for winning the exchange, but as my friend started to think about what was going on I seen this uncontrollable fate unravel in my head.

My game ended with a much longer mating pattern only because I play a little to cautiously, after reviewing it I have changed it a little from the orignal mate so those of you that find the shortest mate don't get told you are wrong.

Wow! Congrats on spotting that combination! Must have felt great to be able to do that in a real game! It would have been a little shorter after 7. Qd7+ Kf8 8. Qxf7# or after 9. Qd8#

Heh and you got it, i thought you were going to point out something like Boring but those work. Yes I donno I just went with my instictive moves, I could have actually skipped taking the rook as well after I looked over it. But I play cautiously in case my calculations don't add up, that's probably why I don't see more of these in games.

I will change it then to so people dont get misleading wrong moves because they found a better mate.

Very well done.

There were ways to checkmate faster.

It's interesting to see how a good mating puzzle gets shorter and shorter! Smile

not really, those are still mates in 6.

Yea and my original puzzle didn't have the fastest mate, I changed it. He was right.
