How does this make sense?

The solution to this puzzle apparently is rook a2 takes pawn g2 in which the king moves from g3 to h3. Why wouldn't the king just take the rook?

? pawns going wrong way?

1. It is white to move. There is neither a rook on a2 nor a pawn on g2. If you mean back rook on h2 takes pawn on b2, then I don’t know.
Please make sure who to move, and which way the pawns are moving is clearer

yeah... set up the position right.

Alright, i'm gonna try to read your mind.

Looks like the numbers on the board should be flipped.

Anyway, White is going to play the only legal move, Qxh4. The solution to the puzzle is:

1... Rxg2+! A deflection sacrifice. Taking the rook leaves the queen defenseless, so therefore:

2. Kh3. But then 2...Rxh2+! forces your opponent's hand, as it is a skewer! 3. Kxh2 Qxh4+

and Black is winning on material superiority.

Given your chess.com ratings, this puzzle is far too difficult. The deflection tactic should be learned after you become adept at spotting hanging pieces and protecting your own.
