I love these kinds of puzzles. I did not even try to solve it, but just the depth and ideas, as somebody must have come up with this game. The imagination involved in making this study is great!

pawnsacrifice5

Actually, there were 400+ moves played with no pawn moves or captures, so this study is fake, and the game is a draw.

50 move rule!

The 50-move rule does not apply to studies. Problemists have a few conventions which deviate from the FIDE game rules. See article 17 here: https://www.janko.at/Retros/Glossary/Codex2015.htm

... and so I compose from the mate in 549 moves a worldrecord for longest legal mate in 555 moves ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70FmRGd4qqU

... and if you want easier ones have a look at my compositions at my hompage : https://gameknot.com/chess-puzzles.pl?s=0&a=1&u=chesscode&m=0&s=9

If I remember chess rules correctly, 50 move rule only results in a draw if a player wishes to claim it. White can win instead of a draw as long as neither player calls upon the 50 move rule.

The 50-move-role excists ONLY inside chess PLAYING and NOT inside chess COMPOSING .

Not such a bright question- don't you think so?
