Can someone explain their thought process for solving this tactic?

I had so much difficutly with this problem! I wonder how others approach eliminiating certain lines particularly on the third move

It's not easy at all as there are so many variations to consider. In some cases you actually play a piece down (unlike the one shown) and have to believe in your king side attack defending which your opponent lets you chip away at their undeveloped queen side

I think going back to “Can I check, can I take, can I attack” is still the best here. The knight is clearly undefended, so if you can’t find a mating sequence, then trying to take that knight is a good goal. You would almost need to see that from the first move, though.
