hey. i have played a few of the quick games and i was wondering what is up with the timer on live chess. the last game i played my opponent had a second left but when he moved his king somehow he gained 3 seconds from it. causing me to loose instead. can anyone explain this bs

1. Time increments: In some games the time control may be set so that with each move you make you gain some time, perhaps the time increment was set to 3 seconds. (ie. a game played at 5 3 means that each player has 5 minutes to play the game, but for each move they make another 3 seconds is added onto their time)

2. Lag: it takes some time for the move you make to get transmitted to the chess.com server and then to get transmitted to your opponent, and then on the way back as well, so occassionally live chess will add some time to account for a player lagging.

i do not believe it was 5 3 becouse i did not recieve the 3 seconds on any of my turns.

i also noticed that when it was my opponents turn the timer takes a few seconds to start counting down. however when it is my turn it began instantly.

Also, do u recieve extra time for taking opponents pieces.

He saw the same thing, but in reverse.  Its lag.  Don't worry, as soon as he saw the move you made, his timer started.
