stalemate. his king cannot move but he is not in check so it is a stale mate.
i've had some extremely complex stalemates, and yes they dont get less annoying.

Very legit draw/stalemate.
You are not in check and have no legal moves you can make. As such, by rule, it is a stalemate.
One of the things to do as a beggining player is to learn the mates against a lone king. See the fastest way with a queen, then a rook and so forth. Then play with two rooks vrs a king to see how to quickly do it. Some of these basic ideas show up as threats in games more often than one would think.
Yah, this is stalemate. You are white. It is your turn to move. You cannot legally move your king into check. You are not in check in this position. No matter what square you move to you will be in check. Therefore it is stalemate. You are not in check, but if you move you would be in check. The game is over. stalemate. By the way don't feel bad for your opponent. It was his responsibility to make sure he didn't put you in a stalemate position with his last move. He lost the win. You where fortunate he made a mistake and you got a stalemate instead of a loss.
On another topic. This is one reason some people say never resign. Your opponents are not perfect and will make mistakes. I know, I make a bunch
was playing a great game against classicbalaj and i feel that he was ripped off the credit due for a checkmate. here is a link to the game in question http://www.chess.com/livechess/game.html?id=15202754. i was given credit for a stale mate but i appear to be in checkmate. is this a bug or am i right in recieving a stale mate? thanks for the look and i am a begginer player and do not know the official rules on this sort of thing.
