playing on live chess (15/10). in the endgame of a decently played game. my opponent suddenly decides that he has no chance of winning, so instead of resigning he just sits there making me wait for his 13+ minute timer to run out. one time i had to wait for 8+ minutes for the timer to run out while the very next move would have been mate and my opponent had no escape.

have some etiquette people.

Maybe shorter time controls would help?

that is the worst and most rude way of resiging(in my opinion), but you're opponent has every right to do just that so just have some patience and you get the win.  You won, the enemy lost, that's what matters.  That's what we play for right?  ;).

Sounds just like the live chess equivalent of vacation time abuse.

One expects class and gamesmanship in Chess. There are way to abuse any game rules. It doesn't necessarily mean that it should be done. I would simply make a note not to play this person again, if you can avoid it.

I agree with reddawg, if someone does this to you don't play them. And we have a great tool to help you do just that too, if you add them to your blocked list, you will not see their seeks, they will not see yours, and they will not be able to challenge you. You can manage your blocked list on this page.

I don't see any huge problem.  Had it been an untimed game it would've ticked me off.  That used to happen to me when I was younger.  In this case, all you had to do was wait a few minutes for his timer to run out -- no biggie.
