Lost games

I was playing anumber of opponents, and for some inexplicable reason, the games just disappeared. I don`t have a record of the names, so I can`t apologise individually. If anyone of them sees this, perhaps they can understand that it wasn`t as a result of anything I did, but of some bizarre problem in this site. After I finish my current games, I won`t come back.

I'm not one of those opponents, but I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with Chess.com. Did you report the error to erik and the team?

belaqua

Thanks for your comments. What makes me suspicious about what happened is this. I was being inundated with new games; every time I came to the site a new opponent had arrived, so I asked for help on how to switch the invitation thing off, and lo and behold, the games just disappeared.

Knightly

Where they welcoming games? Did you put down that you wanted to be a Chess.com greeter, and play welcome games with newbies?

belaqua

No, I understood them to be ordinary games. There was a problem- I was being inundated with games, so that every time I opened the site I had new opponents. I asked for help, and lo and behold, not only did I get no new games, but all the old ones had gone!

Judging by the number of people who have viewed the topic, there seems to be quite an interest in the subject of games lost. How much do people learn from them? How long do they go on hurting in one`s memory?

corum

I think you should contact Erik directly about this. I have played more than 500 games on this site over the last 4 months and never had one problem.

aadaam

another alien attack

If the attack had been accompanied by shining, rapidly- moving lights, I might have thought so. But no- more likely to have been just the dull drudgery of errors and incompetency.

don't be so hard on yourself ;)

this has not been reported by anyone else. we would be happy to look more into the issue if you could provide any evidence at all - game IDs (foudn in your browser history), etc.

of the million+ games played on the site, no other reports.

It's possible that someone else knows your password?

belaqua

Thanks for your coming to look into it. I had gathered that everybody who heard of it was rather amazed by it too, so I believe the site normally operates very efficiently. All I can say is that when I notified staff of my problem, games disappeared all at once-before that I couldn`t find a way to turn off the open invitation, so I had been overwhelmed by too many games, but then, although they had been carried forward by quite a few moves, they all went.

Not to woirry- your site is a great one, and obviously pleases so many--this is a weird blip..as someone said, maybe this was an attack by aliens.

If you think that this is possible, (though it's not likely, because it's not like the games were resigned... they're just gone), or if you just want to, you can change your password here: http://www.chess.com/home/change_password.html .

Thanks, Baseballfan!

Once again, thanks to so many who took the trouble to make suggestions as to a solution of my problem. I`m very impressed by the helpfulness of users of this site. Thanks again to everyone.

they dont last long if you are not a premium member!

belaqua

Thanks, donngerard, though I`m not sure I know what you mean.

I just want to let this topic die now.
