live chess suggestion

may i suggest an option to pause the game during live chess matches. similar to a draw offer, one player can ask if the game can be paused. the game will only be paused if the opponent agrees to it.

trying to answer the phone or the door with a 5 minute blitz going can be difficult sometimes.

Good idea.

very good but you should set a time limit on the pause

shane97

yes that happens to me in 1min such as when i have to answer the phone

I would also like an option to flip the board.  If I accept a game as White, but someone wants me to play Black, I would like to hit a button that changes my game from White to Black without getting out of the game.

I would say no to the pause.  Your telephone or whatever is not my problem, and I wouldn't ask for one myself.

that is why i suggested that there is the option to ask your opponent. feel free to be "mean" and say no.

I agree, a pause offer would be nice.  I also agree that the opponent should be able to refuse and that there be some time limit, at which your clock starts again.

yeah a time limit on the pause would be necessary.

i agree, both players should have to click pause.

The problem is people using the paused game to think. So i would suggest that there be a way to make sure that the player who first askes for the draw plays the last move.

For instance, im white and its my turn and the "phone rings," I must make my move before I can ask for a pause. Or, I can ask for a pause and if my opponant accepts, then it only pauses once my move is made. Otherwise, you could lie about the phone and do a number of calculations while the time i paused. I would also ask that the screen go black at pause. I know, this wont really help for hard core cheaters, but it would stop petty cheaters from pausing it when they got stuck.

good point. perhaps the pieces can disappear or the board can get covered or whatever during the paused game.

And both people would have to hit pause to unpause.  That way someone couldn't hit pause, have the oppoennt agree then walk away thinking he has a couple minutes (bathroom break or something), and the first guy quickly unpauses, makes his move, and the opponent times out.

Looks I am deep in the minority opinion, but "mean" has nothing to do with it.  I control my environment, and do not allow intrusions.   If there is a porblem on my end, then it is my fault, my problem, and those are the breaks.

The thing is, will the staff put it in?

Peregrin__Took

We can sit here and talk about it all our life and it won't even have a chance of getting installed or whatever til the staff knows about it.

So, I suggest that you bring it to one of the peoples in charge of this site.

half a min pause s/b ok. i have no problem allowing opponent to think since i am a slow thinker myself. lol.
