Live chess is now only for kids?

What happened to the sounds in Live Chess? Did a new survey reveal we are all now 6 years old? The polite click was perfect, and useful. It now sounds like I am playing an arcade game. Can we not get an option to have the old sensible non intrusive click, as opposed to the super flange mega mega hyper fox news style soundtrack? Please?

For me it's simple. I don't like (so don't play) live chess very much. I miss the tactics in it, many people play just blitz to make the opponent out of time however they are poor players. But that's just my opinion and I know people who can enjoy it. Or the easiest way is, turn off the sound:)

guitardog

um, ilovegambits, i KNOW i can turn the sounds off, i am not as retarded as the person who designed the sounds. I pay my money so feel I am entitled to my opnion being heard. Just suprised I no longer fit into the chess.com demographic. But pleased my  6 year old nephew probably is.

The sound is usefull- if I have a few different windows open, say, checking my stocks and shares in one, checking online sales of my new album in the other, the 'click' tells me someone has moved in my current game. Simple. I find chess in itself interesting and exciting enough with the need for sound effects. I KNOW when I have castled. I just did it 'lol'

this is first corenspondence chess site and then live. If  you are more in mood for live chess try some other websites, like chesscube.com

guitardog

I enjoy live chess on chess.com. I am only rated 1630(ish) in speed chess so find the level of opponents here more than challenging. PLus I am a paid member here, and dont want to pay to play chess on another site too. I raised this point to see if any other users agree with me, or if I am just grumpy old luddite who refuses change. I am aware that both could be true.

Streptomicin

Lol, that is to you to decide. I am just sugesting that there are better (and free - chesscube) websites for live chess. People are what make this place great.

Ideally I think would be good to have a choice as an option of whether want "old sound effect", "new sound effect" (which could be the default), or no sound.

TheRoadRunner

I agree the new sounds are horrible

guitardog

'beep beep' to that, roadrunner.

sandro1321

I agree with guitardog. The new sounds are a bit childish. I think it would be good to have an option of wether someone wants the new soud effects or the old sound effects.

EnoneBlue

lol I thought they were kinda childish too, but I dont really mind. I didnt see it as better or worse. It would be better if there were 2 choices tho

agidron

i agree with guitardog, he is ace.

danzlatic

Ditto.  I agree with guitardog.

I don't like the new sounds either, I think they have they also got louder (my volume settings remain unchanged). On the other hand, Live.Chess is in a constant state of flux and is unlikely, in my opinion, to remain unchanged. Let's wait and see before we get too ruffled by a minor annoyance.

BTW:  it seems to get less annoying, the more I have played.

erik

sorry. will be reverted next week.

Moriarity

The sounds are a little distracting!  But I think that it helps if you are looking at another page you can see if your opponent moved

XavierPadilla

No sound effects need to be eliminated, Erik. Just be sure to include different sound effects styles and a mute button for the music lovers - like myself. Cool
