En Passant Glitch?

Sort:
SilentSpic

I was unable to take black pawn at g5 with En Passant.  Can someone please explain reason?  I still won the game, but need to know this for my future games.

Yes en passant only works when you pawn is on the 5th rank--it means in passing and the pawn is passing through a square would you had the opportunity to take it if it had only moved one square.

For example if you pawn was still on f5 and Black played...g5 it passed through g6 which you pawn controls--here at f6 you could have taken the Black pawn at g7

Oh okay, I was not aware of this.  Thank you aasel.

enpassant is only allowed if a pawn has afvanced 2 places ahead in its first move then the other color can take it, like that, as if it had moved only one peace. It can not be done if moved once twice to get to row 5.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_passant

I think it was made up when the pawns where alowed to jump 2 places ahead a long time ago in the history of chess. To deal with some ways of bypassing and escaping.

it annoys me that you didn't know that, yet your rating is so much higher than mine.

Wow really how can someone have a score that high and not know that!!!  And why would someone with a score as high as the other guy make a move like that in the first place seems like a wasted piece to me... could have at least captured the pawn it passed???

ITS FUN!

I too was flummoxed by your high rating, I looked in your recent games, turnes out you were just very lucky to win too consecutive games against a player rated 1600, I assure you that you were playing against a player not worthy of having a 1600 rating, and the fact that you are new on this site only contributed to the amount of rating points you gained from these games, I hope your rating stablises itself soon enough (you have more rating than me!), not that I hope you will lose games, I mean I hope you will learn chess to a degree that fits your rating.

To those who are "flummoxed" over the poster's rating:  what does this have to do with the thread?

After all that, I'm still lost. In a game I played and won a while back my opponent messaged me "en passant" and Ithought he was pleading for me to let his pawn over to become a queen.Of course I didn't do this, although now I realise I might not have completely understood his meaning. I still don't know what this "en passant rule means.

Congratulations SilentSpic-your rating rocks!
