yes, for NOW they just keep track of your activity. in the future they will have other meanings such as how well trusted you are, adding additional features to your profile, earning other priviledges, etc

Superman may be able to fly, but he doesn't understand en passant, and he insists on calling the knights "horsies." So him & Erik both have their differing heroic abilities. (Now that's got to be worth a point!)

Hi Kriz what they actually mean is how we interact with the other players on the site. It is a great site and it is good to see contributions from every one.

No, because that wouldn't be accurate. This is because forum posts are not the only things you get points for. If you put an article in the news section. Posting to your blog gets you points too, and it's not always 1 post = 1 point.
