Losing connection during games at Chess.com

Same here. Three times only in the last two days. All other apps /sites are working, router/internet is fine. And it only happened when I was in a winning position and could mate in a few moves. Frustrating and first of all suspicious.

"But 6 minutes later i could reconnect and saw that the time for my opponent almost run out.

He then lost due to time rather than checkmate so ist was definitely a Server Problem for both sites"

This was my hope, too. But in a similar situation I suddenly lost because I "abandoned the game". I never ever did that. Why should I? I had plenty of time and could mate the opponent in a few moves.

There can be a lot of different reasons that a client loses connection to the Live server.

Happens to me way too often

I have lost connectivity in 5 of the last 15 games. Quite pathetic, indeed.
However, I have played 11 straight games against a bot without an event. This would lead me to believe that either the opponent is sabotaging my games (not likely, in my opinion) or chess.com is causing me to lose connections in the hope that I would become a paid subscriber. This pattern of "abuse" is causing me to seriously consider only using lichess for all of my games against humans.
Has anybody experienced a reduced incidence of connectivity issues since becoming a paid subscriber?

so how do you re-connect? I was winning and then lost connection and there is no button to re-connect. I had to sit and watch as I lost the game. There must be a re-connect button?

best bet is turning off and on your direct internet connection.

This site seems like a poor choice to host the Bullet Chess Championship 2024. Sam vs Alireza in the semifinals and Sam gets a horrendous connection and loses 2 games on time. Then they get to sudden death and Ali gets disconnected and loses on time.

Chess.com takes 15 minutes to discuss the issue and decides to wipe out the game and restart sudden death. Ali then goes on to win.

Disconnect and poor connectivity have been going on for 10+ years. Having online tournaments doesn't help your brand when they fail. Even Hikaru is roasting you on his streams. Invest in some infrastructure. "It's a known issue" standard reply from Martin Stahl doesn't help anyone.

I thought it was just me, but yes, I have lost connection, and usually when I am winning the game.

I'm losing connection most of the time when I'm about to win, I've been on this site for a decade, and maybe it's time to find another site, I will not pay here anymore.

What I don't understand, after experiencing this problem several times, is why I can't log back on and reconnect to the game in progress. There should be enough time to do this. I've had opponents in losing positions abandon the game rather than resign and the clock tics off rather than immediately ending the game. There should be a "resume game" button for the case of lost connections.

The connection issues are frustrating and it negatively impacts my rating. I was rated 1440 and have lost a huge number of games for connection issues now rated below 1200. As I climb back quickly eventually the issue represents then stops my momentum.

I am experiencing a connection problem specific to the ongoing games on chess.com. I receive a message that i have lost the internet connection. But all other apps work and so do all other chess.com apps such as tactics. The only app that I cannot connect to is the going game. I can only reconnect after the game ends. As anyone else experienced this problem?

This is one of the most frustrating aspects of Chess.com. Complete garbage. No connection issues all game. Speed tests are > 50 mbps uplaod/download. Last 20 seconds of multiple games I get timed out due to "connectivity" issues.

Fix the site.

This happens to me periodically and only when I'm winning. This is obviously somehow done by the opponent. I never have any other internet problems EVER!! I'm on the most advance internet technonolgy potentially in the world here in Canada. So really?? Only when I'm winning?!

Steve-K

I lost a game for the second time in three days because "trying to reconnect" came up - I have no evidence of the rest of my Internet going down, just the chess.com link.

It's happened before, but rarely, maybe once every six weeks or so. And on occasion it is the opponent affected, so perhaps it balances out. But the recurrence after a few days is worrying. I tend to play 30 min rapid and maybe that increases my exposure, compared to shorter games, but I don't have this problem when I play lichess. Maybe there are just too many people playing and it gets overloaded?
