Losing connection during games at Chess.com

me too

Hedgehog1963

I've had two games lost this evening due to loss of connection when I was winning.  My Internet is fine for all other purposes.

Very unhappy.

This has happened to me (at least temporarily) close to ten times in the last hour. I've never had connectivity issues before, and my internet connection is fine.

Happens to me regularly.

Still an issue. Literally happened in every game this evening. I used to be a premium member but quit because of this issue. Going to register with lichess because this is insufferable. Not a fan of losing 50 rating points for no reason on a regular basis!

So where is the VP to help us fix the issue ? We are all having similar problems.

In general, the information in the following is your best bet.

It is always possible a misbehaving advertisement can cause issues. At this point in time, due to the pandemic, there is a lot more traffic, both here and internet wide, so additional lag is possible, and unfortunately, there isn't really anything that can be done about that specific lag, other that the site changing the way it handles lag and disconnects.

Ok , I also thought it was because of overtraffic caused by the communist chinese plague .

I also expirienc the same problem and it has come to the extent of me or waiting for my opponent to make a move. eh let's say we are both left with 3 minutes each and it's my opponent's next move. The clock will go down until it's zero and then the next thing am the one who's time is finished

The issue is not with my computer or internet connection. The issue is on the chess.com servers.

torgu

It has happened the same to me many times the last month

Why can't the game abort instead of making one player lose when there's bad connection? SUCH AN EASY FIX YET SO UNFAIR

gillaspy

Why doesn't Chess.com have "adjournment" - so a game can be restarted?  Other sites do. Of course, if you allow adjournment" you would need to be able to adjudicate games when one player quits in a losing position.

The site used to have that early one but it was discontinued. It's been a while since I saw that topic that discussed it, but I believe it was removed because the vast majority of games were never finished.

Because then people could just disconnect any time they are losing to keep from losing points.

That doesn't justify someone else winning and me losing just because I had had a genuinely bad connection. It's better if a game aborts so no one gets any undeserved points.

Unfortunately, aborting lost connections would end up with people doing it on purpose and never losing games. It isn't something that will be done.

There are things that can be done to help with some connection issues:

It happened to me. I just turned the game into my favor . Was going to be a very cool win. All of a sudden I lost connection. I was so mad at the time. But I look back and tell myself there r a lot worse things happing around the world and I find myself happy to be able to play another game in the safety of my temperature controlled home

i guess there are some people that do not know to loose and atack your ip or something...not very sportsman....i mean you do not get paid or anything and if your got paid it wouldnt be acceptable either. Yes it happens many times when you are ahead so for me is basically the only reason...cheating
