Chess.com’s problems

Sort:

There are so many problems on chess.com. This first post is just an introduction to this topic. I also want as many people to respond to this post. Also if chess.com locks this post then [removed -- MS] chess.com up. As I said this is just an introduction so I will end it here for now. Bye

Why does chess.com have to lie about to earn money. I know this is a for profit company but why would you want to be a for profit company?

Why would a company want to be able to pay their employees, pay their bills for hosting the site, and be able to invest in growing the site and game?

FelixN2022

Well you are trying to make even more money. For example if chess.com makes 5 cents this is a non for profit company but if chess.com is a for profit company which is true chess.com made 30 cents.

Why are you even here then? There's a non-profit chess site that would welcome your anti-capitalist mindset

I know but I am doing a project that requires evidence from chess.com

David

And why should chess.com help you with your project?

Are you going to defend chess.com in a case like a lawsuit?

They don't need me - Chess.com's lawyers are more than capable of that, as Hans Niemann found out

Well are you loyal to chess.com?

What does that even mean? I've played here a long time and know some of the people behind the scenes, but have been playing bullet regularly over on lichess after the change to v3, because I was just get too much lag here on chess.com to enjoy it. Both sites have their own philosophies and do some things better than the other, and I think attributing ill-intent to either of them is dumb and simplistic. And unlike the moderators, I don't have to be polite and I can say that.

Seriously are you going to support chess.com? This is what I am trying to ask

I'll support them when I think they deserve support and criticise them when I think they deserve criticism: same as anything. I'd say I try to do so objectively, but it really is only trying to be objective, since no-one can completely eliminate their personal biases. I hope to be honest about mine, at least. It would be nice if other people could be more open about theirs as well, but I guess that requires a level of self awareness and is less common than it should be, at least on the internet...

Nah I talk on these forums to get evidence from the users rather than ask chess.com because otherwise I will not have accurate data.

That is exactly how conspiracy theories work - ignore any evidence provided from reputable sources and instead choose to believe anonymous users on the internet. It's the classic "Garbage In, Garbage Out" scenario, although I also quite like the phrase "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

Well what is use then. Just give me a source

I suspect English is not your first lanaguage and that's okay, but I have no idea what your question "What is use" is about. Use of what? Maybe you meant to ask "What is useful?", but useful to do what? I am a user posting in the forums, isn't this the sort of "evidence" you're referring to in post #14? I posted links to the interviews Erik Allebest has given in another thread, but here it is again: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general-chess-discussion/erik-allebest-interview-on-scaling-to-100m-revenue-150m-members-and-700-people-99989457

There's the Chess.com articles I've provided in that other thread - what's wrong with those?

What does that even mean? ...

I think their profile page explains everything

"Hello I a have a account in chess kid called LimeCynicalWeather also chess.com doesn’t refund my rating even through my internet is bad can chess.com refund my rating ".

You are not engaging with an adult here.

FelixN2022

There are a ton of reviews on trustpilot that talk about chess.com and most of them are very bad.
