Catalonia is not a country, why a flag?

Not trying to create a conflict here, but since chess.com decided to create it, here is my question. Why is there a Catalonia flag if it's not a country? Why not then also have Texas Flag? Or California? What is the reason for chess.com to create a flag of a state, which is not a country itself?

There are many old posts which explain it. 9 years ago, CEO Erik explained:

we aren't an official repository for defining countries or nations.

we allow people to choose their identity and offer as many options as reasonable. sometimes this causes problems when there are disputed countries. but we aren't picking sides - we're a chess site trying to make people happy. we encourage people to resolve their differences in the appropriate political venues, not on our site.

enjoy!

His answer makes me laugh! the CEO is literally saying he is not trying to take sides but chooses randomly who can be defined as country on his app and who is not? Just by giving "reasonable choices"? Please define reasonable! Once again, what about Texas? I feel I'm Texan no American, or Californian? Rules must apply equally. If the CEO decided to create flags of countries don't exist, at least, make it even for all, that's my opinion. What about Paris flag? What about St. Petersburg? Madrid?

Haven't you got anything else to get upset about?

You are getting too political over this. This site is about chess. If an identifiable area wants its own flag and gets it, then good for them. You may be upset that the Texans do not, well brush up on your lobbying skills.

I have the choice of a UK or an England flag, although only one of those is a country.

ps. I had many a good drinking session in London in the Texas Embassy (now a bar) in Trafalgar Square.

it is for the cat community on chesscom, which is a pretty large audience. it’s the best they could offer.

I have to say that does smack of a discrimination against us Lagomorphs happy.png

So if it's by popular demand that the organization authorizes any flag as a country of origin, how many votes or requests do we need from Texas to be accepted as a country? What's the threshold? Or in Paris? What about Puerto Rico? Palestine? What about Crimea? To say that "this is just a game platform, we don't care about flags" it's childish or pretending we are actually coolchilds, specially with the time sensitive situation in Catalonia nowadays. The reasons behind are clearly deliberated and chess.com is indeed playing politics here in my opinion.

You should be able to customize your flag (I mean be able to heavily edit it, not simply pick a country).

Still, Chess.com is not totally consistent with its way of granting flags.

Because some people consider Catalonia a country, but no one in their right mind seriously thinks Texas is a country.
