Cannot play live chess - account restricted??

Sort:

Hi,

It says I can't play live chess because my account has been restricted - although I never intentionally did anything wrong.

How and how soon can I change that?

DeepGreene

Assuming the restriction is because of the fair-play policy, your account will be fully re-enabled when you play more games that decrease the overall % of games where you disconnect or abandon.

A lifetime ban unless you find friends to play.

Try here  http://www.chess.com/groups/home/fair-play-transgressor-rehabilitation-centre

You may be there forever unless you figure out what is being counted against you.

Dear Sir,

when ever i am trying play chess the message appeared

You currently cannot create or accept open challenges. Your play is restricted because you have not followed our Fair Play Policy which discourages disconnecting, intentional stalling, etc. However, you are allowed to still play with friends. You may play openly again after finishing more games with fair play. If you feel this is an error, please contact Chess.com support.

Please help me sir

You can play friends and accept direct challenges.

Sorry for polluting the recent posts list with the same post over and over, but I want to make sure all interested parties get this...

Certainly we don't think users should be "hung up on" instantly once they are paired with an "abort-enthusiast," so we want to discourage that. Laughing

But the current approach seems more punitive than desirable (or necessary). So now the plan is this:

- Make the New Game > Ratings settings more obvious, so that people are more likely to be aware they are able to specify a ratings-range for their challenges.

- Change the nature of the account restriction:  Don't stop people from playing; stop them from Aborting. That is, once they go over the limit (which, btw, is based on a %) they can still create/accept Open Seeks. But they can't simply abort their games anymore (until the % drops back below the line) - games will start with a button showing "Resign" instead, with all the usual ramifications for their rating. Play or forfeit!!

Much better. Smile

Still working out the details, but this is coming soon...

I find this problematic. If my opponent doesn't do his first move in 1-2 minutes, I tend to abort. I got a "Please follow our policy or we might ban you blablabla" message, but it's gone now, probably because most of the people I've played lately does start the game rapidly after connecting.

I don't understand your comment. "If my opponent doesn't do his first move in 1-2 minutes, I tend to abort." As it stands now, if your opponent doesn't move in 15-20 seconds, the game will abort all by itself, with no consequences for you.

Hm, I've never noticed this function. However, I am an impatient guy with a bad sense of time. I'll try waiting a little longer next time I encounter such a situation.

Off-topic: Thanks for your hard work, this site is a fantastic, I would never have been able to develop my interest for chess and get matching on an even level (other sites have a bunch of guys that's too strong for me, while there's opponents for everyone here (Except strong GMs, I suppose?)) if it wasn't for you guys.

I am not sure if this is relevant to the discussion or not..but last night I was playing live chess and I had at least 4 games in a row abort..one time it said the server aborted before the chessboard finished loading for me..I've never had connection problems.  Is 15-20 seconds before an automatic abort enough time?  It seems like there have been so many threads about people being locked out in the last week..I really thought I should just stop trying to play a game in case it seemed like I was aborting or had server problems.

For the record I did play another game, and never was issued a warning or notice about the aborts..but the 4 aborted games in a row seemed really strange; especially the one that it said the server aborted before anyone had an opportunity to make a move.

Thank you! And please note, the auto-abort (after ~15 seconds) is new behavior as of this morning!

You didn't notice it because it wasn't there. :)

I see. I was slightly scared when I tried to wait, and the game aborted itself. Thought my sense of time were really messed up.

GIT-REKT
I use the chess.com mobile app and it doesn't auto-abort after a certain amount of time when the other person doesn't move. This happens often. I'm getting that warning message now. I have no idea what to do, I'm really scared I will be unfairly restricted.

Hi all,

A somewhat relevant update this morning; this is from the last development blog (posted here):

Update Dec. 5, 2011: We have now permanently removed the full restriction on open seeks: Preventing people from playing was simply making it too difficult for them to make positive changes to their own Fair Play scores, and thus creating a dead end. Effective immediately, "fully restricted" members must instead wait 5 minutes between games (unless playing with Friends); this includes games that are aborted, so please read the Fair Play guidelines for tips on how to get the perfect game to begin with!

rezza2012

Hi since  egistered chess.com (dec 2011) I try to live chess also but no luck.. the board always in loading process.. and never end. I dont know what to do with that.. I use DSL connection /tv cable connection and firefox browser, I believe  it fast enough.. is there any one having the same experience with me ? btw currently I only play the online chess..

Quasimodo51

I often can't even get to the loading process.  If I do manage to get a game set up, chess.com aborts it before I've had time to make a single move.  Plus, it's forever disconnecting.  Even writing this message is hard work.

Just how can I get a game started?
